Great journey started
In May 1977, with inspiration from the Sankaracharyas of Kanchi, Dr. R V Ramani and Dr. Radha Ramani established a Primary Health Care Centre in Coimbatore to address the needs of the underprivileged as NGO which in health never existing for the needy.
Today
Strong commitment towards eradicating curable blindness 14 Super Speciality Sankara Eye Hospitals have been set up across 10 states of the country. 2.7 million Eye Surgeries free of cost and now 1000 operations / day being done free with a mission “To provide unmatched eye care through a strong service-oriented team”
Societal Change
- Gift of Vision to Rural village men and women, by visiting every villages at pan India level and offer complete cure including free eye surgery
- Rainbow for the needy rural children touched till 7 million school children with support including cornea surgery
- Sankara Academic vision educating selected poor youth and train them in Optometrist and higher education which includes teaching them basic spoken English. More than 1000 girls trained.
- Through the innovative hybrid model, Sankara Eye Foundation provide high-quality eye care at no cost each year, beneficiaries, who can afford to pay, contribute to subsidising the expenses for economically disadvantaged patients. This sustainable approach enabled to reach underserved communities but also fosters a sense of collective responsibility in addressing societal challenges.
